Vicent Partal acaba de publicar un documentado libro, ‘’Fronteras’’, en el que analiza cómo las fronteras son siempre una invención humana e incluso las que aparentemente son naturales no lo son en absoluto.
La ruptura de la Unión Soviética después de 1991 fue tan inesperada como repentina. No cayó desde fuera, sino que se derrumbó como un castillo de naipes desde dentro. Lenin escribió en su exilio en Zúrich que la Rusia de los zares era la prisión del pueblo, pero poco después de tomar el poder cambió el imperio de los Romanov al Soviet. Uno de los problemas endémicos de Rusia es su complejo de inseguridad y la necesidad de proteger sus fronteras terrestres que han sido cruzadas sin éxito por Napoleón y Hitler.

Solzhenitsyn tenía madre ucraniana y su Rusia ideal era la que incorporaba también Bielorrusia y Ucrania. El resto sobraba. Vasili Grossman y Nikolai Gógol eran ucranianos y también se sentían rusos. Jruschov, un ucraniano, incorporó Crimea a su patria en 1954. Nadie sabe si Putin tomará el arriesgado y peligroso paso de anexionar militarmente a Ucrania como hizo con Crimea en 2014. Pero desde que llegó al Kremlin tiene la intención de recuperar o neutralizar Ucrania.
