López despertó ilusiones, aunque efímeras, en 2014 -6 años después de que fuera alcalde del municipio de Chacao (2000-2008)- como líder de las protestas antigubernamentales, cuyo objetivo final era sacar al presidente Nicolás Maduro del poder.

La ‘desaparición’ de López y Guaidó del panorama político venezolano en el terreno generó cierta desazón entre el antichavismo, que parecía no encontrar su camino ni el guía que lo transitara. Pero reapareció en escena María Corina Machado, quien, pese a estar inhabilitada para ocupar cargos públicos de elección popular, tomó el timón opositor y enfiló la ruta a seguir.
